What was the Issue?

I collaborated with the design and development teams at SAI Digital to enhance the user experience and functionality of the American Public University System’s website, as well as its two universities’ websites. Overall, the main objective was to create new websites that are easily navigable, communicate key information effectively, and emulate American Public University System (APUS), American Military University (AMU), and American Public University’s (APU’s) distinctive branding while presenting a cohesive experience. We solved for a variety of problems including:

  • Many different page templates that made each site feel disconnected and dated
  • Confusing and clunky navigation
  • Difficult experience to update website from client perspective

What did we do?

  • Enhanced navigation by reconstructing and consolidating the Information Architecture (IA) of each site
  • Created mega menu styled navigations on AMU and APU’s sites
  • Produced a robust component library to be utilized across all three websites and styled accordingly per site
  • Designed new pages to feature key information pertaining to each site
  • Provided wireframe and design deliverables for both desktop and mobile to share solutions to the client
  • Wrote a migration plan and documentation in order to train internal team members
  • Composed a document for the migration process to be utilized by both SAI and APUS team members
  • Implemented migration of all three websites
